8. Refundable Taxes on Cancelled or Unused Tickets

Where a ticket is cancelled and a refund is processed in accordance with the applicable fare rules, the following taxes are generally refundable. Refundability is subject to the airline's own refund policies, the applicable fare rules, and whether a refund has been formally requested through us.

  • Federal Transportation Excise Tax (7.5%): Refundable on the unused portion of a domestic base fare where the ticket qualifies for a refund under applicable fare rules.
  • U.S. International Departure Excise Tax: Refundable if the international ticket is cancelled prior to departure and meets the airline's refund eligibility criteria.
  • U.S. International Arrival Tax (YC): Generally refundable on cancelled inbound international tickets.
  • Animal & Plant Health Inspection Fee (XA): Refundable on unused tickets where a formal refund is processed.
  • Immigration User Fee (XY) and Customs User Fee (YC): Refundable if the ticket is cancelled and the passenger does not travel.
  • Foreign Government Taxes (where applicable): Certain foreign government departure taxes may be refundable depending on the laws of the originating country and the airline's refund procedures. We will advise on a case-by-case basis.
  • VAT on Airfare: Refundability of foreign VAT depends on the country of origin and the airline's policies; not universally refundable.
Please Note: Refundability of taxes is contingent on the underlying ticket qualifying for a refund under applicable fare rules. Non-refundable base fares do not automatically entitle the passenger to a refund of associated taxes, though some taxes may be reclaimed separately. A processing fee applies — see Section 9.
